📌 Project Overview
The Bar Detection and Conveyor Movement Monitoring system is designed to automate the process of monitoring metal bars on a conveyor belt using computer vision.
🎯 Purpose
This project was created to:
- Ensure uninterrupted operation of industrial conveyor systems
- Automatically detect stoppages in conveyor movement
- Assist in quality control and safety monitoring
- Reduce manual supervision and human error in production environments
🛠️ What the Project Does
Using a YOLOv8 object detection model, the system performs the following key tasks:
- Detect Metal Bars in Real Time
It identifies and localizes metal bars moving on a conveyor belt in each video frame. - Track Movement of Bars
By calculating the centroid positions of the detected bars across frames, it can track their movement. - Detect Conveyor Stoppages
If the system detects that bars are no longer moving (based on position changes below a certain threshold), it concludes that the conveyor belt has stopped. - Display Visual Alerts
- When the conveyor is running: It displays an “OK” status in green.
- When a stoppage is detected: It displays a “Conveyor Halted” alert in red.
📷 Input Types Supported
- Pre-recorded video footage (e.g., from security or monitoring cameras)
- Live video feed (e.g., from a webcam or IP camera)
Note: This system can be highly useful in manufacturing plants, logistics centers, or any environment where materials are transported via conveyor belts, enabling proactive maintenance and reducing downtime.
